Blanchard for Others
Blanchard for Others, on behalf of the people of The Ken Blanchard Companies, provides financial contributions and other assistance for basic needs to charitable organizations, relief funds, and educational programs that serve those who need help to improve their quality of life. Blanchard for Others hosts and participates in fund-raising activities.
The highlight is always the Giving Tree at Christmas time. Several local families are presented with food, gifts, and clothing during the holidays; some years Santa Claus himself does the presenting.
Blanchard for Others receives funds from employee contributions, our Blanchard Give Back Program, and from various fund-raisers throughout the year such as our annual Craft Faire—where our employees and others sell their art work, baked goods, jewelry, and crafts.
Give Back Program
The Ken Blanchard Companies’ Give Back Program, established by Ken and Margie Blanchard, provides an outreach opportunity for all employees to direct the organization’s overall charitable giving. Each employee chooses up to two charities to receive a cash donation from Blanchard in the employee’s name.
These actions stem from the cofounders’ visions and values. Ken and Margie encourage the active involvement of employees by clearly establishing a commitment to give back to the community within the company’s strategic plan. The program provides a tremendous source of pride to associates that we honor the needs of organizations where our associates have personal interests.
Green Team
The Blanchard Green Team’s mission is to inspire Blanchard associates and partners to set a noticeable example in responsible conservation of natural resources for the global good. That mission is in alignment with Blanchard’s number-one ranked value: Ethical Behavior.
An important goal for Blanchard is to decrease their environmental impact. Since the establishment of the Blanchard Green Team in 2002, Blanchard has instituted numerous environmentally friendly practices. We have received the prestigious "Outstanding Contribution for Paper Recycling" award by Legacy Fibers three years in a row thanks to our corporate-wide recycling program. We have a dedicated recycling center at our headquarters that includes paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, aluminum, and e-waste recycling. Our employees also have the opportunity to donate time and money to their favorite environmental causes through the company-sponsored Ambassador Program and Give-Back Program.
When possible, we print our materials on 30% recycled paper. We only use 30% recycled paper in our offices. For many custom clients, we abstain from producing plastic laminated covers for workbooks and other training materials. We also offer local fulfillment for our global clients through our partnership with FedEx/Kinko’s and other local vendors, thereby reducing the fuel needed to ship materials across the world.
Homes of Hope
Blanchard employees and family members build homes in Tijuana, Mexico, through the Youth with a Mission organization. The construction spans a long weekend with a key-presenting ceremony on the last day. Blanchard teams are put together so that the necessary skills such as painting, roofing, or putting up sheet rock are evenly distributed.
Since its inception, the Homes of Hope program has impacted thousands of homeless families living in the Baja region of Mexico. These proud home recipients immediately experience a higher level of emotional and economic stability. Their children experience benefits in their health and well-being due to vastly improved living conditions. The stability of a home enables them to attend school longer, which opens doors for their future productivity as citizens in their communities.
Families that have the greatest need are selected, and homes are built on land that the families must own. Families work alongside our Blanchard volunteers in the building of their homes.
Infant at Work Program
In our very earliest years, while working on a deadline developing a product, Founding Associate Pat Zigarmi brought her infant daughter to work with her. The positive effect of having a baby at work was a big discovery and our Infant at Work program was born. Parents with babies are welcomed with open arms (literally) into the Blanchard workplace for 12 weeks. Many years and many babies later, we call it the ultimate stress buster. Blanchard babies become so socialized and at ease with people, it is a huge plus for baby, parent, and everyone around. It's not uncommon for someone to look away from a computer and say, "I need to see the baby for a moment."
